Indoor air quality as a new priority
Air quality, especially at home, is more important than ever with families spending an unprecedented amount of time indoors. This applies to the air we breathe, the air that follows us in when we open a door and even the exhaust we create cooking in the kitchen.
Alvarez Construction Company strives to make your home as healthy as possible with industry-leading technologies that filter allergens, dust, mold, bacteria and other pollutants out of the air while you go about your day.
A new priority
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Americans spend 90 percent of their time indoors. And, the indoor air is typically two to five times more polluted than outdoor air.
So naturally, as homes start to serve buyers in more ways as offices and classrooms, these spaces demand better technology to keep your family safe and healthy. Greater technology and energy efficiency are topping wishlists for millennials and baby boomers alike with the America at Home Study finding that 45 percent of boomers are interested in and willing to pay for these features.
Healthy Homes at the foundation
At Alvarez Construction Company, our healthy homes initiative starts long before residents move into their new homes in Baton Rouge.
It dictates decisions like the barricade home wrap that protects the exterior walls with a water-resistant barrier and reduces airflow. Then, the foam around windows and doors that limit airflow and plate seals we use to reduce air infiltration. Low-E vinyl windows and radiant barrier roof decking provide thermal balance while ENERGY STAR appliances and a 50-gallon gas quick recovery water heater save energy and money.
The most important and comprehensive effort we make to protect your family is the whole-home air filtration and protection system. This includes hospital-grade air filters installed at the unit and a 16 SEER HVAC that maximize filtration from the moment it enters your home. The filters we use earn a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value -- or MERV -- rating of 16 which is double the standard MERV 8 that other homebuilders use.
Together these elements create a strong envelope around your home that creates a semi-controlled environment for your family year-round. And, these practices are standard in each of our new homes in Baton Rouge and the surrounding area.
